Virtual environments and mapping tools for experiential learning
The Immersive Media Platform provides educators and researchers with open, accessible, 3D web-based learning tools. They work on any phone or laptop with an internet connection, and don't require users to install complicated applications.
These tools can be customized to place your study participants in virtual scenarios, create gamified augmented reality experiences like Pokémon Go for your class, or design real-world walking tours that display text, images, or video on a user’s phone when they scan a sign or reach a real-world location.
Why a platform?
Educators are interested in education and research tools that use technologies like virtual reality, (VR) augmented reality, (AR) or geolocated content. However, existing solutions rarely meet all our needs, and contracting external programmers for custom work can be expensive.
The Immersive Media Platform brings this capability to all UBC faculty. It's a set of accessible 3D tools that can be reused and customized to suit a study’s specific needs—without your research team needing advanced programming skills or specialized hardware.
